Having had an international upbringing, which included living in Riga and Almaty, I’ve always had a profound interest in languages and international affairs, particularly in the post-Soviet space. I completed my MA in International Relations and Russian at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, for which my final year dissertation investigated the status of the acculturation of Russophone Latvians as negotiated by Russian-speaking media both prior to and following 24thFebruary 2022. My research thus far broadly encompasses the intersection of culture, politics and language. I’m particularly interested in exploring the themes of historical memory, Russophobia and “traditional values” in Russian foreign policy discourse.
