REES Scholarships and Funding

Applicants to the Russian and East European Studies (REES) programme are often eligible for a number University wide Scholarships, and you are strongly encouraged to explore these funding opportunities. Most Oxford scholarships worth over £1,000 are advertised through the Fees, Funding and Scholarship Search. You should use this tool to help find out whether you are eligible for scholarships which require an additional application. If you are, the tool will include links to full details of how to apply.

The REES department offers a limited number of departmental scholarships that are available for incoming MPhil students. The departmental scholarship is open to home, EU and overseas students. All REES MPhil applicants are considered for these scholarships. The value of the scholarship is up to £5,000 and is paid in one instalment in the first term. Scholarships are awarded on merit and it is intended that the scholarship will assist with living expenses whilst in Oxford. The scholarship award letter may be used as part of the evidence required when completing your Financial Declaration.

Please note there is no departmental code for the REES departmental scholarship.

A scholarship may be awarded either at the same time or after you are offered a place by the department. It may be awarded either before or after you have been offered a college place.

All REES MPhil applicants will be automatically considered for the REES departmental scholarship, you do not need to apply separately.

Please note the following conditions: any MPhil student in receipt of a scholarship who then seeks to transfer to the MSc programme will be required to repay the full amount of the scholarship as a condition of transfer; students choosing to withdraw from the MPhil before completing their studies may be required to repay part or all of the scholarship.
