Prior to Oxford, I received an MA in Modern History & Russian from the University of St Andrews, in my homeland of Scotland. During my final year there, I focused on the study of historiography in Russia and the Soviet Union, looking at how prevailing political currents steered the work of Russian-speaking historians both before and after the Revolution. My interest in the intersection between politics and history has shaped my current research interests, which include contemporary manifestations of Pan-Slavism and the influence of religion on Russian foreign policy.
