Giles Humphreys-Evans started learning Georgian with a teacher in Tbilisi at the beginning of 2019. He joined the Oxford Georgian program at the end of 2019 and started translating in 2022. Prior to working on Aka Morchiladze’s Santa Esperanza he has translated several of Erlom Akhvlediani’s stories of Vano and Nico.
His interest in Georgia was first piqued in the nineteen-nineties when he lived and worked in Moscow. While there he also translated several exhibition catalogues from Russian into English.
He studied Experimental Psychology at St Anne’s College, Oxford, at the beginning of the nineteen-nineties. He is now an accountant and lives near Oxford with his wife, two daughters, dog, cats and corn snake.
