Uzbekistan in a changing Central Asia: regional and international implications

One of the most significant developments in Central Asia has been the ambitious economic and political reform programme promoted by Shavkat Mirziyoyev since his accession to the Presidency in 2016. This seminar will provide an analysis of the economic and political changes that have occurred in Uzbekistan and their impact on the Central Asian region and on the wider international arena, taking into account the recent radical shifts in global politics.

Roland Dannreuther is Professor of International Relations at the University of Westminster. He is also Director of the Forum for Uzbek and Silk Road Studies. His research interests include international security studies, energy politics and the regional politics of Russia, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Komiljon Karimov is First Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Education, Uzbekistan. He has been Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent (2020-2021) and Rector of the Westminster International University in Tashkent (2015-2020). He holds a PhD degree in Political Sciences and International Relations from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

Ahliddin Malikov is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). His research areas include international trade, financial economics, and political economy.
