Elizabeth Wood is Professor of Russian History and Women’s and Gender Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In MT21 she is a Visiting Professor at Balliol College.

She has worked extensively in both early Soviet history and in contemporary Russian politics and culture. Her two historical monographs (on the 1920s in the early Soviet period) are The Baba and the Comrade: Gender and Politics in Revolutionary Russia (1997) and Performing Justice: Agitation Trials in Early Soviet Russia (2005).

Most recently she has published a number of articles on Russian President Vladimir Putin, political masculinity, and the performance of power. Currently she is working on a monograph on changing images of the Russian President in different political contexts.
