Applications are invited for the position of Departmental Lecturer in East European Politics which is available from 1 September 2019 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 30 September 2021. The fixed-term role is needed for a limited time to provide cover for the teaching commitments of the substantive postholder and other staff members who are on leave for this period.
You will be expected to lecture, tutor and supervise postgraduate students on the MSc and MPhil in Russian and East European Studies, including in Research Methods. You will be required to produce lecture notes, course materials, reading lists, and reference guides as required by the programme. You will engage in assessment and University examining for the REES programme and manage your own academic research activities, conduct independent research and develop scholarship in areas relevant to the REES programmes. REES are seeking an inspirational teacher and researcher with both breadth and depth of knowledge in East European Politics and Society and who will become a fully active member of the department.
You will have been awarded a doctorate in a relevant disciplinary and area studies field. You will possess an aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching and a demonstrable record of conducting high-quality teaching and research across comparative politics, international relations, political sociology or political economy. We will give preference to specialists with a broader regional, rather than narrower single-country, focus on the post-socialist countries of the region (Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic (Czechia), Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine and the Balkan States of the former Yugoslavia). You will have expertise of the political circumstances, trends and systems of the region as well as sound knowledge of relevant research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative), particularly as they relate to Area Studies.
