Professor Karolina Wigura is a historian of ideas and sociologist. She is an Associate Professor at Warsaw University’s Faculty of Sociology. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Center for Liberal Modernity in Berlin and member of the Board of Kultura Liberalna Foundation in Warsaw. Her research focuses on the history of ideas of emotions, forgiveness, and collective emotions in politics. Wigura is the author of "The Guilt of Nations: Forgiveness as a Political Strategy" (2011) and "The Invention of Modern Heart: Philosophical Sources of Contemporary Thinking of Emotions" (2019) – both in Polish. Together with Jaroslaw Kuisz, she published books "The End of the Liberal Mind: Poland's New Politics" (2020) and "Post-Traumatic Sovereignty. An Essay" (in German, Suhrkamp Verlag, 2023). Wigura held fellowships at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the Robert Bosch Academy, the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna, and St. Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. She regularly contributes to The Guardian, The New York Times, and other periodicals.
