Dr Marcin Walecki has over 30 years of international experience in democracy assistance and governance, having worked in around 50 countries. He has held senior roles with leading global institutions, including as Senior Country Director for the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Ukraine (2022–2025), Executive Director of the EUROPAEUM (2020–2022), and Head of the Democratization Department at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) (2014–2020).
He previously served as Executive Director of the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) and as Senior Advisor on Political Finance for the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). In Poland, he sits on the boards of the Institute of Public Affairs and the School of Leaders.
Dr Walecki holds an MA in Law (Hons, Class I) from the University of Warsaw and a DPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford. He is a former Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence and a Visiting Fellow of St Antony’s College, Oxford. His work focuses on democratization, political parties, and political corruption, areas in which he has written and lectured extensively.
