Teona Lomsadze holds a Ph.D. in Arts (Ethnomusicology) from Tbilisi State Conservatoire (2021). The primary focus of her dissertation is "Contemporary Forms of Functioning Traditional Music (ox an example of Georgian folk-fusion)." She earned her second MA in Music Management from the University of Leeds (2022). Since 2018, she has served as a regional representative for Georgia at the International Council for Traditional Music and Dance (ICTMD).
Teona has a decade-long working experience at the International Research Center for Traditional Polyphony of Tbilisi State Conservatoire, where she played a key role in co-organizing the International Symposia on Traditional Polyphony – the largest ethnomusicological event in Georgia. At various times, she taught diverse subjects related to Ethnomusicology and Georgian music at Tbilisi State Conservatoire and Gori Music College. Additionally, she led the Tbilisi-based international community choir Naduri and was the vocalist of the jazz band Kanudosi and Gori Women’s Choir.
Teona served as a visiting scholar at the University of Manchester and King's College London, UK; City University of New York (CUNY), University of Illinois, and the University of California (UCLA), USA. She delivered guest lectures at esteemed institutions such as the University of Aveiro (Portugal), King's College London, and UCLA. During her current fellowship at Oxford, she is exploring the internationalisation of Georgian music in the UK.
