Dr Maria Kaneva is a health economist currently working as a Lead Researcher for Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy in Moscow. Dr. Kaneva received her PhD in Economics in 2007 and her Doctor of Sciences degrees in 2019 from the Russian Academy of Sciences. She is an author of more than 100 research articles both in Russian and English. Her research is centered around such topics as willingness-to-pay for medical services, health insurance, risk-aversion in health care, self-reported health, heterogeneity in health reporting, age differences and income differences in health outcomes, and economics of mental health and well-being. She is a recipient of a Russian Fund for Basic Research grant “The role of health capital in the socio-economic development of Russian regions” (2020-2022). Apart from health economics, her research focuses endogenous growth models, innovation-led growth, and spatial econometrics.
