REES Associate Dr Leila Alieva participated as a speaker at the 4th Strategic Mediterranean Dialogue arranged by FMES in Toulon on the 8-9 October. The large scale event, which was attended by around 3,600 people, brought together politicians, academics, journalists, activists, diplomats and high level military commanders.
There was a most interesting exchange of ideas, and the stress on military issues was symptomatic of the current European trends. Yet, the human centred vision of security was also prominent, along with other issues, such as threats and risks of connectivity. The event was characterized by the openness to diversity of ideas, and welcoming attitudes of opposing views.
