Dr. Tea Kamushadze is an anthropologist specializing in post-Soviet studies. She earned her Doctoral degree in Anthropology in 2018 with a dissertation titled "Urban Formation and Post-Soviet Transformations (on the Example of Rustavi)."
She currently leads two research projects funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Foundation:
- “Covid Pandemic and Georgia: Anthropological Research of New Reality” (2022–2025).
- “Russia-Ukraine War and Georgia: Local Implications of a Global and Regional Crisis” (2023–2026).
In 2021, Dr. Kamushadze completed postdoctoral research on "Representation of Religious Pluralism and Secularism in Urban Space: Post-Socialist Rustavi," also supported by the Rustaveli National Foundation.
Her academic journey includes fellowships and research at leading institutions such as the Davis Center at Harvard University, Jagiellonian University in Kraków (as a Lane Kirkland Fellow), and the Open Society Foundation’s CARTI and Higher Education Support Programs.
Dr. Kamushadze has published over 30 scientific papers, presented at more than 60 conferences, and participated in numerous international projects, seminars, and workshops.
She is a researcher at the Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology, an assistant professor at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), and an invited lecturer at Tbilisi State University (TSU).
Her current research at Oxford University explores "Bridging Traditions and Modernity: Reassessing Georgian Ethnology Through Postcolonial and Digital Lenses."
